“Fur is an intrinsic part of the history of costume, just like the red carpets at famous film premieres and presentations, which is why the Associazione Italiana Pellicceria wanted to take part in this unique, intriguing exhibition,” said Roberto Scarpella, AIP president, by way of introduction. “Our Association has the privilege of representing a unique, exceptional  piece of heritage, made up of  small and large companies that in Italy, and Italy alone, safeguard the art of fur for the whole world”.

The Trame di Moda exhibition reveals the style and elegance of fur, with iconic garments by Fendi, Roberto Cavalli, Max Mara, and, finally, Elcom for the Centro Studi Associazione Italiana Pellicceria, the garment that the Association made as a tribute for this exhibition.

Throughout the history of costume – which has become fashion as worn by the great stars of the silver screen – fur is the key symbol of unmistakable elegance that both embodies and transmits beauty. The exhibition will display more than 70 garments from the archival collections of famous fashion houses and costume designers, as well as an important documentary by Rai5.

The exhibition was planned and curated by Fabiana Giacomotti, writer and professor of Science of Fashion and Costume at the Sapienza University in Rome, along with Alessandro Lai, costume designer and art historian, and was staged and set up by Sergio Colantuoni, with coordination by Chiara Squarcina. Set against the evocative backdrop of the ground floor and main floor of Palazzo Mocenigo in Venice, the exhibition highlights the correspondence between the costumes worn in famous films shot in the City of Lagoons, contemporary styles inspired by these films, and precious historic garments conserved in the museum.
